Published 25/09/25We had a brilliant week in Year 1 last week!
In Writing, children enjoying the story of The Gruffalo. The children worked hard on describing the Gruffalo and all his amazing features. Later in the week, we had lots of fun coming up with a feast for the mouse – including a snake smoothie, fox pie, Gruffalo crumble and owl ice cream! The children showed so much imagination and came up with some fantastic ideas.
In Maths, we were finding one more and one less with numbers up to 10. We used number lines, objects, and games to help us practise.
In Geography, we made “messy maps”! We looked carefully at our classroom and then used objects to create aerial maps of the space. The children really enjoyed it, and some even carried on having a go in provision time.
In Science, we’ve been learning all about our five senses – sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell. The children loved sharing ideas about how we use our senses every day and enjoyed spotting examples all around the classroom.
In PSHE, we talked about our families and friends. The children thought carefully about the special people who look after them and make them feel happy, and we also discussed what makes a good friend in school.We all had a fun week!

Read MoreHarvest Festival
Published 23/09/25Key Stages 1 and 2 will have an Assembly all about Harvest Festival next week.
They will look at how food is grown, where it comes from at different times of the year and how it is harvested. They will also talk about how sometimes, for whatever reason, people can sometimes struggle to feed their families.
As a school, we have asked all the children to bring in a donation of food for our local food bank (tinned food, packets or boxed foods are ideal donations). You can send your donation in at any point this week or next and we will display the food in the hall before delivering it to our local food bank.
